Why we exist?

Maternal and child health remains a critical global concern, with preconception and pregnancy periods offering vital opportunities to improve outcomes for both women and their newborns. These stages are crucial for ensuring safer pregnancies and establishing long-term health foundations for children. Globally, nearly 2.3 million newborns die annually, with almost half of these deaths occurring within the first 28 days of life. In Uganda, the situation is particularly challenging, with a maternal mortality rate of 189 deaths per 100,000 live births and only 60% of women completing the recommended four antenatal care visits. The country also struggles with a high under-five mortality rate of 40.5 deaths per 1,000 live births and severe malnutrition issues, with almost one-third of children under five being stunted and over 268,000 suffering from wasting. To address these challenges, a comprehensive monitoring of continuum of care spanning from preconception through pregnancy, childbirth, infancy, and beyond is essential. Through research and innovation uganda, we aim to find effective solutions for these pressing issues.
Mother and child clinic visit

Our mission is to improve health through research innovations, prevention, care, and treatment of infectious and noncommunicable diseases among African populations and beyond.

We are building strong, reliable data acquisition systems that support the collection of accurate and robust data. Our platform provides a comprehensive view of the patient journey for mothers and their children enabling monitoring and comparative effectiveness research to improve patient care.

Because our data spans the life course, we can assess how early life exposures influence later life susceptibility to diseases, including exploration of genetic causal factors.

Our multinational collaborative team epidemiologists, clinicians, and public health professionals is committed to advancing the health of mothers and children.
